The walls of the dining room are painted a soft grey, providing an elegant backdrop for the art chosen to hang in this room.
The classic minimalism of a Saarinen table and simple grey chairs create a peaceful atmosphere for entertaining family and friends without distracting from the art on the walls.
The rich wooden parquet and traditional writing desk, together with the glazed coloured tiles surrounding the fireplace and the colour of the blinds is taken from the painting and tones with the tiles. They complement the otherwise cool tones used in this room and create warmth.
The kitchen features a blend of traditional and modern furniture. The cool lines and tones of carrara the marble worktops and splash back, together with the Italian steel oven and hob, are softened and warmed by the brass fittings and bright colours of the chairs, which are, in turn, echoed by the rich tones of a Sicilian majolica vessel.
Having been moved to another room within the house by a previous owner, Claudia has now restored the kitchen to its original location, creating a clear bright space for cooking and informal dining.
The selected art featured in this room provides inspiration for its colour scheme and design. The walls are a soft pale grey which provides the perfect backdrop for the paintings and sculptures and furniture and textiles in warm bright colours have been sourced from Italy to complement the art. Further depth of colour is provided by the warmth of the parquet floor and a handmade resin table, commissioned directly from an artist.
Every window in this house is different with each of their original features having been preserved. Framed by the room’s beautiful windows, Sicilian majolica vases feature identical planting, their colours picked up by the furniture around them.
Traditional and modern art and furniture are combined throughout the house to create a warm and welcoming space providing many different focal points. Two oriental scrolls hang from the picture rail in this seating area and a decorative lamp and red sofa echo the colour and patterns featured in the scrolls.
The original Victorian fireplace has been retained and the alcoves are illuminated by gold fan shaped wall-lamps, giving a sense of warmth to the room. Further light comes from two Italian mid-century glass table lamps to the side of the fireplace.
The cushions, which feature an interpretation of patterns found in traditional kelims, sit on two dark-blue velvet mid-century Italian chairs.
An almost spherical Capellini stone Carrara marble table provides a focal point around which the colours and patterns featured in this room are anchored.
A Capellini chair articulates the space beneath the stairs and an orange stair runner with a dark trim picks up on the colour in the painting on the wall above.
The blue walls of this bedroom bring out the warmth of the magnificent chest of drawers, a family heirloom.
The pictures above and in front of the fireplace feature colours that complement the green of the tiles.
The blend of antique and modern is complemented by a mix of high-end designer pieces and interesting pieces sourced from the markets of the world. This room features a mixture of rich green tiles from Fired Earth, an ornate mirror, and a mask found by the designer on her travels.
Golden blinds made from high quality linen from British brand, Fermoie provide a dramatic contrast to the monochrome scheme, created using tiles from Fired Earth. An African raffia basket picks up on the golden hue of the blinds.
